DIY Home Automation
For decades, the notion of home automation integration has been the Holy Grail – a glorious vision of a futuristic home that could be controlled with the press of a button, Jetsons-style. The good news? That day has pretty much arrived.
The bad news? It’s still confusing and expensive to properly set up.
Crestron, the world’s leader in control and home automation systems, has introduced a new, streamlined product line designed for DIY-minded customers on a budget. Crestron Pyng is an Apple-based system* that pairs the Pyng app with accessories throughout your home. Those accessories include wireless lighting controls, shading solutions, thermostats and wireless door locks, as well as security systems. With guidance from your systems integrator, Pyng can also be expanded to include DigitalMedia distributed audio and other Crestron products.
The heart of Pyng is the physical hub located in your home that communicates with the app on your iPad or iPhone, but all settings are backed up to the cloud, allowing the homeowner to make changes easily and securely – and providing you with the option to restore the system to its previous settings if you go a little too wild with the programming. And yes, you can make those changes yourself if you choose to; Crestron has designed the system for ease of use by homeowners, who may still need a little help from professional integrators who normally handle the nitty-gritty of home automation programming for their customers. While the hardware still requires professional installation, the software set-up and customization is taken care of via your tablet rather than a laptop, providing a simplicity that is hard to match.
